HISTORY: The TGA State Mid-Amateur, for players 25 years and older, started in 1988 and was won by Rob Long of Clarksville. Long won three of four tournaments before the format was changed to stroke play in 1992. Tim Jackson (51 years, 6 months, 16 days) became the oldest player to win the tournament when he won for a record sixth time in 2010 at Spring Creek Ranch. The Mid-Amateur trophy is named in honor of John Atkins, a long-time Tennessee Golf Association director, who served as president in 1950 and 1960.

Matt Cooper, the former University of Memphis golfer who plays at Spring Creek Ranch, birdied No. 18 (first playoff hole) at TPC Southwind in Memphis to capture his second TGA State Mid-Amateur Championship in four years.

Cooper had a two-stroke lead going into the final day’s play, but played the final round six over par. He made bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes of regulation to find himself in a tie with Cookeville’s Lee Maxwell and Knoxville’s Todd Burgan who shot 72 and 73 on the final day.
