CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — While they never played college golf together at Tennessee Tech, Beth Underhill and Kylie Crouch were in lockstep on their way to a Tennessee Women’s Four-Ball Championship victory. A 36-hole, even-par 144 captured the TGA title for the pair, winning by eight strokes over the two days.
Both Underhill and Crouch had standout careers on the Tennessee Tech women’s golf team, albeit at different times. Their contributions to the Golden Eagles program earned them Hall of Fame inductions; Crouch in 2013 and Underhill in 2023. Now they’ll add a Tennessee Golf Association to their mantles.
The duo was steady throughout the tournament, posting four birdies and four bogeys to go with 28 pars to keep the rest of the field at bay. Michelle Dodson and Rachel Ellis finished in second place, posting an eight-over-par 152 (78-74). Six birdies from Dodson and Ellis kept them in the running.
Janelle Raaen and Janice Sauter finished third at 18-over-par, the mother-daughter duo of Denise and Teleri Hughes finished fourth at 25-over-par, Hazel Davis and Katie Young finished fifth at 27-over-par and Allison Brown and Kim DeMoss rounded out the championship division at 34-over-par.
In the senior division, things were tight atop the leaderboard heading into the final round with four teams within four strokes. Karen Williams and Rhonda Switzer-Nadasdi led the field after their first-round 69 with the team of Leslie Letner and Suzanne Rhodes a shot back, Karin Rader-Carson and Shelly Steel three back, and Gena Ridings and Mary Ruth Geny four back.
Three of the four teams stumbled out of the gate, taking bogey on the first hole. But through the front nine, the team to watch quickly became the duo of Rader-Carson and Steel. They were the only team to turn in an under-par front nine during the final round and continued that with two more birdies on the back to finish three-under on the day and the tournament. As the only group to turn in two rounds of even-par or better, Rader-Carson and Steel captured the Tennessee Senior Women’s Four-Ball title by two strokes.
In flight two, Robin Banner and Sandie Baillie took home top honors at 3-over-par 147. Nancy Harper and Stephanie McMahon won flight three by one stroke, capturing the flight with a 12-over-par 156.
In flight four, Karen Rogers and Kimberly Moore won by a stroke at 17-over-par 161, just ahead of Linda Post and Sandy Foster.
The Knoxville duo of Carolyn Singer and Gina Tate won flight five by a strike after posting the flight’s low round of the day.
Catherine McEwen and Donna Ruggles captured the victory in flight six, edging out two teams by one stroke.
In flight seven, Amy Hilten and Patti Furrier won with a 31-over-par 175, besting their first-round score by seven strokes.
