GREENVILLE, Tenn. — After quite the week at the 2023 Senior and Super Senior Four-Ball at Link Hills Country Club, Mike Poe and Tim Dinwiddie took home the Senior division trophy. Tony Green and Garry Siddons took home the trophy in the Super Senior division. Poe and Dinwiddie ended their Friday finals in a 2 & 1 win against John Thomas and Craig McElhaney. The Green and Siddons vs. Eddie Bailey and Jeff Jones match ended 4 & 3.
Poe and Dinwiddie were strong competitors that came to the course each day ready to get their names on the Joe Chalmers Trophy. They made the Senior division theirs by keeping their names at the top of the leaderboard and making sure their matches remained in their favor, despite some close calls to get to the finals.
The semifinal match pitted Poe and Dinwiddie against Jeff Navarre and Mike Albonetti and had people on the edge of their golf carts. Tied through twelve holes, the champions had their work cut out for them to move through to the final round. Only 1 up on Navarre and Albonetti at the 18th tee, each stroke was vital to a winning finish. The round ended in Poe and Dinwiddie’s favor as they saved par to halve the hole, which sent them to their last match with Thomas and McElhaney.
During the finals between Poe-Dinwiddie and Thomas-McElhaney, the match status fluctuated throughout the day. Thomas and McElhaney found themselves down three through eleven holes before securing two of the next three holes to narrow Poe and Dinwiddie’s lead to one. The eventual champions responded quickly on the 15th hole to stop any building momentum from the Thomas-McElhaney pairing by getting their match back to 2 up. Halved holes on 16 and 17 secured the duo's first Senior Four-Ball win as a pair. This was Poe’s second win at the event, his first in 2012 with Ricky Gregg.
On Thursday in the Super Senior division, it was no doubt to anyone on the course that Green and Siddons were going to take home a win. They stayed at the top of the leaderboard throughout the entire week, hardly vacating the top spot.
The final round was no different for these two, as they started strong and stayed strong the entire match. By the 8th hole, Green and Siddons were already 5 up on their opponents, Bailey and Jones. With a solid lead like that throughout the finals, the round was over on the 15th green in a 4 & 3 victory for the pair to get their names on the Jim F. Brown Trophy.
A 4 & 3 win was no foreign concept to Green and Siddons, as they also won the semifinal bracket with the same score against Rick Sinard and Mike Mills. After the fourth hole, Green and Siddons never relinquished the lead for the rest of the match. This Super Senior Four-Ball team was relentless on the course, and took home a well-deserved victory.
