TGA announces schedule for 2022 season

FRANKLIN - The Tennessee Golf Association is excited to announce its championship schedule for the 2022 season.

A strong line-up of courses is on tap to host events next year, including one facility that the TGA has never visited before in Henry Horton Golf Course.

“As the holidays near, the TGA is starting to turn our focus toward a new season,” said Allison Brown, who was named the TGA’s new executive director earlier this month.

“We are excited about the outstanding courses that have graciously agreed to host tournaments in 2022.  We will be hosting events all the way from the Tri-Cities to Memphis, and we hope to see many new and familiar faces alike playing in state championships.”

The 73rd Tennessee State Open will be held at Council Fire, June 7-9, with eligible professionals competing for the $10,000 top prize.  The state’s premier event is also open to amateur golfers who have an established handicap at a TGA member club.

The Tennessee Amateur Championship is slated for Aug. 2-5 at Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville.  Cherokee last hosted the Tennessee Amateur in 2012, won by the legendary Tim Jackson.

The Tennessee Women’s Amateur will be held on the other side of the state as Chickasaw Country Club will welcome the top female golfers June 21-23.  Chickasaw has hosted the Women’s Amateur on two other occasions, in 1953 and 1973.  They were won by Marnie Polk and Betty Probasco, respectively.

The 24th Golf Capital of Tennessee Women’s Open will return to Stonehenge Golf Club in Crossville for the 14th consecutive year, July 21-23.  Three years ago the tournament saw a record number of 127 competitors compete for the title at one of the country’s premier women’s state open tournaments.

The Tennessee Boys’ and Girls’ Junior Amateur Championships will be held concurrently for the fourth consecutive year as the TGA makes its first-ever trip to Henry Horton Golf Course in Chapel Hill, June 28-30.

For the second consecutive year, the TGA season will begin with the Men’s Mid-Amateur Four-Ball at Tunica National.  It will move back one week to April 30-May 1.  Being held on a weekend, the inaugural edition of this tournament last year filled up in just a couple of days.

The Men’s Four-Ball will be held June 21-24 on the Tennessee Grasslands Lakes Course.  This has also been a very popular event in recent years, filling up in a matter of days.  The Women’s Four-Ball typically fills up with a waiting list, and in 2022 it will be play Aug. 23-24 at Montgomery Bell Golf Course.

The Men’s Match Play is set for July 12-15 at Tennessee National.  The Women’s Match Play, which was contested for the first time in 2021 and won by Addie Baggarly, is set to be held June 13-15 at Vanderbilt Legends Club.

The Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship comes to Nashville Golf & Athletic Club on Sept. 22-24.

The Senior and Super Senior Four-Ball will visit Toqua Golf Club in Loudon, the Senior and Super Senior Amateur is Aug. 16-18 at Blackthorn in Jonesborough, while the Senior and Super Senior Match Play goes to Signal Mountain on Sept. 22-24.
