CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — The 25th Tennessee Women’s Open at Stonehenge Golf Course was another year of great hospitality and ever greater golfers. Overcoming all obstacles brought by mother nature and the challenge that is Stonehenge Golf Course, Lynn Lim gets to see her name on the trophy. Even before the win, plenty of the Tennessee golf community knew the name, Lynn Lim.
Already the 2023 Tennessee Women’s Amateur winner, Lim has had her fair share of accomplishments this year in the golf community, and the Tennessee Women’s Open is another one that she gets to add to the list.
After battling tough course conditions due to a complete rain out on what was supposed to be the first round of the championship, none of the players shot under par after the first round. Many golfers, including Lim, finished the final round with a plethora of birdies. With 5 people tied for first place, Lim and 3 others were one shot off the lead, which led to an exciting final round. Thanks to 3 birdies on both the front and back nine, Lim earned that number one spot. She came back to the final round determined to see herself on the scoreboard with “champion” right next to it, and did just that.
No playoffs were needed at this year's event as Lim climbed the leaderboard and kept herself well ahead of nearby competition. Lim ended the championship with a 2-under-par 142.
The win of the Tennessee Women's Open and Amateur in the same year has only been done three previous times before and all of them were Vanderbilt Women's golfers. Lauren Stratton won both in 2012, Kendall Martindale completed the same feat the year before and 20 years ago, Sarah Jacobs became the first woman to win both tournaments in the same year.
Professional player, Lucía Polo, was one of three others in a tie for first place after day one. She came back to East Tennessee to enter her second attempt at the Tennessee Women’s Open trophy. The former Lady Volunteer stayed toward the top of the leaderboard throughout the match shooting 2-under-par for the day and an even 144 for the weekend.
Rising high school senior and recent winner of the Tennessee Junior Amateur Championship, Karlie Campbell also played an outstanding round at the event. With an eagle on hole 8, Campbell finished with the second lowest round to score, second only to champion Lynn Lim, in a tie for third.
Returning from the US Women’s Open at Pebble Beach Links, Sophie Linder came prepped and ready to play at Stonehenge Golf Club this weekend. While the 2021 Tennessee Women’s Open champion wasn't quite able to make it back to the top, Linder had a strong finish nonetheless ending in a 3 way tie for fifth.
North Charleston’s Jeannette Kohlhaas also came back to the Tennessee Women’s Open this year to avenge herself from the 8-hole playoff she battled through in 2021. Playing consistently well all throughout the tournament this week, Kohlhaas certainly earned herself the Tennessee Senior Women’s Open Champion title.
A shift of the tournament to Friday-Saturday matches did not phase Kohlhaas though. Including a chip-in for birdie on hole 14, she still managed impressive shots all throughout the day.
Almost all golfers returned to the course to play and finish a 36-hole event thanks to all of the help from Stonehenge and its community. Thank you to everyone who helped with this event, and to all golfers who participated.
