Jackson, Fly defend Senior Four-Ball crown; Nixon, Harris win Super Senior title at Chickasaw

Tim Jackson didn’t play many tournaments in the four-ball format in the early part of his amateur golf career, but now he is finding it much to his liking.

Jackson and Buzz Fly successfully defended their Tennessee Senior Four-Ball title with a 4&3 win over Eric Emery and Kenny Wilson on Friday, Aug. 21 at Chickasaw Country Club.

The victory gave Jackson a sweep of the state four-ball championships hosted by the Tennessee Golf Association in 2020.  The Williston, Tenn. native teamed up with Craig Smith to win the regular Tennessee Four-Ball title at Fox Den in July.

Jackson continues to add to his record haul of TGA state titles.  He now has 25 after the two four-ball wins this year, eight more than Danny Green, who has the second most at 18.

Fly and Jackson also won the Tennessee Senior Four-Ball in 2016.  Fly has four TGA titles to his credit, also claiming the 2013 Tennessee Senior Match Play crown.

The duo never trailed in this year’s championship match against Emery and Wilson.  A birdie by Jackson on No. 5 broke the all-square match and then both he and Fly birdied No. 7 to make it 2-up at the turn.

Fly followed with birdies on holes 10 and 11 to increase the margin to 4-up and four straight halved holes would bring the match to an end.

Wilson and Emory advanced to the finals with a thrilling 20-hole victory over four-time tournament champions Steve Golliher and Danny Green.  Fly and Jackson defeated Mike Poe and Bob Rice 4&3 in the semifinals.

In the Super Senior Division, Doug Harris and Mike Nixon needed one extra hole to claim the title over Jim Webb and Jess Voorhies.

It marked the third TGA state title for Nixon, who won the same tournament in 2014 with Mike Patton as a partner.  Harris, the defending Tennessee Super Senior Amateur champion, now has two TGA crowns.
