Tennessee Girls' Junior Amateur Championship

Event History

The Tennessee Girls' Junior Amateur Championship began in 1964 at Old Hickory Country Club when Harold Eller, the head golf professional, and his wife, Ruth, founded the Tennessee Junior Golf Association and the tournament.  Although the Boys' Junior was credited with starting in 1945, it was not played from 1949-1963.  The Eller family was instrumental in the junior program, and the trophies for each champion bares the name of Eller family--the Harold Eller Trophy is awarded at the Boys' Junior and Ruth Eller Trophy at the Girls' Junior.

The first two championships, in 1964 and 1965, were contested at match play, but the format was changed to stroke play in 1966, and Shelbyville's Margaret Harmon won her first of three titles.  In 1995, the Boys' and Girls' Junior Amateurs began being played at separate sites.  And, the Tennessee Golf Association is excited that these two events will be hosted together, once again, as we celebrate our centennial anniversary in 2014.
