Wimberly Defends Women’s Senior Amateur Title and Hughes Wins Inaugural Mid-Amateur

Knoxville – Lynda Wimberly of Brentwood successfully defended her title at the 39th Tennessee Women’s Senior Amateur hosted by Fox Den Country Club. Wimberly led wire to wire shooting rounds of 75 and 78 for a two day total of 153 and a two stroke victory. This victory is Wimberly’s third Tennessee Women’s Senior Amateur title in four years. Jean Kraft of Fairfield Glade, the 2012 Women’s Senior Amateur Champion finished second with a two day total of 155. Gena Ridings of Franklin rounds out the top three with a two day total of 156.

This year marked the first time the TGA has offered a Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship. The tournament was open to female amateur golfers not enrolled in undergraduate collegiate courses and/or competing on a collegiate golf and at least 21 years of age. Former University of Tennessee golfer Teleri Hughes of Knoxville shot a final round two under par 70 for a two day total of 147 to claim the inaugural championship. Former University of Memphis golfer, Andrea Cropper of Nashville finished second with a two day total of 151 and Melissa Walsh of Knoxville rounded out the top three with a two day total of 157.

About the Tennessee Golf Association In 1914, the Tennessee Golf Association (TGA) was organized at Memphis Country Club as an association of five private clubs. The objective of the Association, as stated in its Constitution, "shall be to promote the game of golf in Tennessee." From these small origins the TGA has become an association which now includes over 200 member clubs, courses, and organizations, comprised of over 32,000 individuals from across the state
