CROSSVILLE, TENN (July 27th, 2017) The Golf Capital of Tennessee Women’s Open brings together a mix of Tennessee natives and others from around the country, and even world. Some ladies have walked the fairways of Stonehenge Golf Club countless times. The first round leader does not fall into that category. “I really had no idea where I was on the golf course the first five or six hole, I was making a lot of putts for par,” Samantha Troyanovich admitted after the round.

The Tulane product managed to find herself in time to make a move up the leaderboard on day one. “I started striking the ball a little better, I made some good birdies thanks to a few good wedge shots,” Troyanovich said. Troyanovich, who recently Monday qualified into and made the cut at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic, birdied Nos. 7-8 before dropping a shot on No. 9 to make the turn at one-under-par. She momentarily fell out of the lead after another bogey on No. 11. However, Troyanovich quickly bounced back with two consecutive birdies on Nos. 12-13. One more birdie on No. 16 allowed Troyanovich to get to three-under-par. Two more pars left the Florida native with an opening round 69.

Troyanovich is no stranger to playing well in the first round, “I had a pretty good first round at the Thornberry Creel LPGA Classic,” Troyanovich said. “I just want to keep doing what I am doing, hitting good golf shots and knowing there will be a few bad ones. I want to have fun and play golf,” Troyanovich said about the final 36 holes. Troyanovich is looking to become the sixth consecutive professional to win the Tennessee State Open. However, the only other players under park are looking to chalk up a win for the amateurs. Blakesley Warren who plays for the University of Tennessee finished with a one-under-par 71, leaving her in second place. Joining Warren in second is Kynadie Adams. The rising star is just 13-years-old but finds herself in contention at her first State Open.

The objective of the Association, as stated in its Constitution, "shall be to promote the game of golf in Tennessee." From these small origins the TGA has become an association which now includes over 200 member clubs, courses, and organizations, comprised of over 32,000 individuals from across the state.
