Malia Stovall picked up right where she left off. The defending champion birdied three of her first five holes to get to a fast start. The rising high school senior made the turn at three-under-par. The future Tennessee Volunteer continued to play bogey free golf on the back nine and added two more birdies, on No. 11 and No. 16, to finish with a five-under-par 67.

Despite a great start, the defending champion does not have much breathing room. Angelina Chan also managed to avoid making a bogey in the opening round. Thanks to four birdies, Chan is tied for second with a four-under-par 68. Joining Chan in second place is Ashley Gilliam. Gilliam did make a bogey, but just one. She had five bogies to go along with that one bogey to get to four-under-par as well.

Two other players found red figures during the first round. Kynadie Adams is in fourth place after an opening round three-under-par 69. Isabella van der Biest finds herself in fifth place after a two-under-par 70. The second round begins tomorrow at 8:00 a.m.
