Thanks to fantastic work from the Foxland Harbor maintenance crew, play began as scheduled for round two of the 69th SunTrust Tennessee State Open. Unfortunately, mother nature reared its head causing a 90 minute delay around the lunch hour. In addition to causing a delay, the wet conditions made the lengthy course even more challenging. While many groups hustled to beat darkness, seven groups will resume play at 6:30 in the morning. Once the second round is completed, the field will be cut to 60 players. The hope is to begin playing the final round of the 69th SunTrust Tennessee State Open at 9:00 a.m. Thursday.
The leaders in the clubhouse are Hunter Green of Evensville, Tenn., and Joshua Bevell of Nashville, Tenn., at seven-under-par 137. Green used rounds of 69 and 68 while Bevell posted a 71 to back-up a first round 66. That looked like it was going to be good enough for the lead entering the final round until Clayton Gregory finally got his round started.
Gregory, who opened with a 70, went on an incredible run on the front nine. The professional from Bartlett, Tenn., birdied six straight holes starting with the par-three second. After a par on No. 8 Gregory used a birdie on No. 9 to make the turn at seven-under-par 29. Gregory parred Nos. 10-14 before darkness set in. Gregory and the rest of the field that was unable to finish will resume play at 6:30 a.m.
Please use this leaderboard but understand that all scores that are not 36 holes are unofficial.
