CROSSVILLE – The 20th annual Golf Capital of Tennessee Women’s Open got underway at Stonehenge Golf Club on Thursday, and a host of professionals lead the way after day one.

Former Northwestern University standout Hannah Kim found herself atop the leaderboard following her round of 4-under, 68.

The two-time Big Ten Conference Player of the Year turned in a bogey-free round that included a 33 on the back nine.

Kim just recently turned pro, with her debut coming in the 2018 Ohio Women’s Open back in June.  At Northwestern, the Chula Vista, Calif., native was a three-time WGCA All-American, a two-time Golfweek All-American, and earned First Team All-Conference honors four times.

Kim will take a one-stroke lead over Anna Lesher into Friday’s second round.  A native of Ashland, Ohio, Lesher played collegiately at South Alabama from 2011-14.

Lesher posted five birdies and two bogeys on her card Thursday.

Four golfers are currently tied for third at 2-under: Emily McLennan (Sicklerville, N.J.), Kasey Petty (Canal Winchester, Oh.), Maria Fernanda Lira Solis (Mexico City) and Karah Sanford (Escondido, Ca.).

Also coming in under par on Thursday were Eunice Yi (Evans, Ga.) and Summar Roachell (Conway, Ar.).  Both shot 71 and are tied for seventh.

The highest amateurs after day one were Auburn University golfer Mychael O’Berry (Hoover, Al.) at even par, and Middle Tennessee State University teammates Jenna Burris and Hanley Long, both at 1-over.

In the Senior Division, Terri McAngus shot a 9-over, 81 to lead Lynda Wimberly by one stroke.

The field in the Open Division will be cut to the low 60 players and ties after Friday’s round.  The Senior Division is only a 36-hole tournament, with the champion being crowned Friday.
