Jenna Burris of Manchester, Tenn., entered the second round with her eye on the medalist position. “I was definitely playing to be medalist, to get the best seed in match play.” The Middle Tennessee State University junior started in fine fashion, making a deuce on the opening hole. Burris’s hot start did not last long. Burris made a triple bogey on No. 2 but just as she did yesterday after a triple bogey, Burris birdied the following hole. “I just try not to let things like that bother me, especially in a match play event. Sometimes things happen and there is nothing I can do about it after it is done,” Burris said.

Burris continued to play solid golf, allowing her to build a comfortable lead. “I played somewhat aggressive today, I could have taken a few more chances but when conservative for the most part,” Burris said. Her strategy worked, the Blue Raider posted the low round of the day for the second straight day. Burris shot a one-over-par 73 to claim medalist honors for the first time in her fifth time playing Tennessee Women’s Amateur with a 36 hole even-par 144 total. “It means a lot to be medalist in this event, I have never done that before.” There is still a significant amount of work to be done for Burris or anyone else in the Championship division to get their name on the Scott L. Probasco Trophy. “I am so excited about this opportunity. I am going to play as hard as I can and make smart decisions to do the best I can,” Burris said.

Sydney Colwill held on to second place with a second round 76. The University of Memphis sophomore will be the No. 2 seed. Burris’s MTSU teammate Hanley Long matched her second-round 73 to jump to the No. 3 seed. Those seedings assure that the teammates, and both members of the 2015 Women’s Four-Ball Champions, could not meet until the championship match.

Flighted Division

Terri McAngus continued her strong play to earn medalist honors in the flighted division. The 2015 Senior Women’s Amateur Champion has taken advantage of the par 5 12thhole. McAngus birdied No. 12 yesterday and eagled it today. McAngus finished with a two-day total of 161. Jean Kraft started the round in third but posted the best score of the afternoon, an 80 to claim the No. 2 seed, finishing with a two-day total of 162. Maggie Scott ended up as the No. 3 seed, finishing just one shot behind Kraft at 163.

About the Tennessee Golf Association

In 1914, the Tennessee Golf Association (TGA) was organized at Memphis Country Club as an association of five private clubs. The objective of the Association, as stated in its Constitution, "shall be to promote the game of golf in Tennessee." From these small origins the TGA has become an association which now includes over 200 member clubs, courses, and organizations, comprised of over 32,000 individuals from across the state.
