Normally 3 days of ideal weather leads to low scores but that was not the case this week at Chattanooga Golf & Country Club. Danny Green was the only player to finish the event at even par in either championship. After starting one shot behind David Apperson, Green and Jeff Walker were both able to tie up the tournament on the second hole of the day. Apperson struggled on the day and was never a strong factor after the first few holes. Defending champion Tim Jackson made a run early in the round to give Green a scare but a bogey on 14 and a double bogey on 15 derailed his chance of making it back-to-back Senior Amateur Championships. Green played solid all three days on greens that could best be described as lightning. Despite bogeying the 54th hole of the championship, he was able to turn his one- shot deficit in to a five shot victory marking his 18th Tennessee Golf Association Championship and third Tennessee Senior Amateur Championship.

On the Super Senior side it was a one-man show all three days. Dr. Neil Spitalny was the only super senior to shoot even-par or better doe any round. He started the day with a seven shot lead and after a rocky start he got back to playing golf like he did the previous two. Mike Nixon was able to play solid on the front nine and gave Spitalny a scare through 9 but never was able to get it closer than 2 shots. Spitalny ended up winning the tournament by 5 shots to successfully defend his title and win his 3rd Senior or Super Senior Amateur in as many years.

We would like to say thank you to Chattanooga Golf and Country Club for hosting the event this week. The staff was superb as well as the golf course. This event officially wraps up the 2017 Tennessee Golf Association season with the Tennessee Challenge Cup Matches October 23-24 at The Honors Course.

About the Tennessee Golf Association
